Ontario Volunteer Centre Network (OVCN)
Fact Sheet

The Ontario Volunteer Centre Network (OVCN) is an unincorporated network of 22 volunteer centres in Ontario, guided by a volunteer steering committee. There is no membership fee at present and all Ontario Volunteer Centres are automatically part of the network if they meet Volunteer Canada's definition of a volunteer centre. The OVCN steering committee is accountable to the OVCN and its membership and is presently comprised of:

Committee:

  • Cathy Taylor, Executive Director - Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington
  • Deborah Gardner, Executive Director - Volunteer Toronto
  • Frank Rockett, Executive Director - Volunteer Bureau of Leeds and Grenville
  • Jane Hennig, Executive Director - Volunteer Action Centre of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area
  • Patricia Weiler, Manager of Volunteer Services and Information Services - Volunteer Chatham-Kent

 

The terms of reference allow for eight people in total to participate as steering committee members. Please contact us if you would like a copy of our terms of reference. New participants would be welcome.

During the past two years, the steering committee has taken on the following roles:

  • Provincial voice for Volunteer Centres
  • Advocated for volunteer centres provincially and acted as their champion
  • Maintained a link with Volunteer Canada through representation on the Advisory Council of Volunteer Centres
  • Maintained partnerships with other provincial organizations
  • Provided a means of connection between Ontario Volunteer Centres
  • Sought opportunities for networking for Ontario Volunteer Centres
  • Participated at various provincial “tables”, e.g. Volunteerism Working Group, COVO, OVCI
  • Shared information of interest to Volunteer Centres as we became aware of it
  • Encouraged use of Volunteer Canada's Extranet
  • Supported the creation of the toolkit for volunteer centres
