Ontario Volunteer Centres Network (OVCN)
Network Mandate and Composition

The OVCN is a network of the recognized volunteer centres in the province of Ontario.

Mandate

To provide a provincial network and provincial voice to strengthen the individual and collective ability of volunteer centres in Ontario to promote and develop volunteerism.

Purpose

  1. To strengthen the capacity of volunteer centres to provide leadership in volunteerism.
  2. To provide a forum to discuss issues and policies which are of concern to volunteer centres and establish ad hoc committees from time to time to study issues which are of mutual concern to volunteer centres in Ontario.
  3. To strengthen the relationship among volunteer centres.

Volunteer Centre Roles

  1. The OVCN is member driven and its work depends on the active participation of its members.
  2. Volunteer centres will elect their representatives to the Strategic Direction and Policy Design Committee.
  3. Ad-hoc committees consisting of representatives of local volunteer centres will perform most of the work of the OVCN.
  4. To provide input and advice or act as a sounding board to the Strategic Direction and Policy Design Committee as needed and requested.

Strategic Direction and Policy Design Committee Roles

  1. To advocate for volunteer centres in Ontario and make policy recommendations on behalf of the Ontario volunteer centre movement.
  2. To provide strategic direction to the OVCN and to Volunteer Canada in their work to promote volunteerism in Ontario.
  3. To foster relationships among volunteer centres, the Ontario provincial government, the business community, and provincial funders.

Volunteer Canada’s Roles

As funds and resources are available, Volunteer Canada agrees:

  1. To assist OVCN by providing staff support to the Strategic Direction and Policy Design Committee.
  2. To assist OVCN in finding resources to carry out its work based on recommendations from the Strategic Direction and Policy Design Committee.
  3. To house and manage an Ontario Desk at the national office (i.e. Volunteer Canada).
  4. Volunteer Canada will manage Ontario projects and keep financial records on behalf of OVCN.
